Basic uses of lighting products

Where there is light, there is human civilization. Tens of thousands of years ago, humans already knew how to use natural fire for warmth, cooking, and illumination. More than three thousand years ago, humans began to use simple lamps to hold candles, writing the history of civilization. From crude stone lamps to bronze lamps, ceramic lamps to modern electric lamps, the historical changes in lighting fixtures have left a deep mark of the times and are also a microcosm of social economy and culture.

Lamps, evolving from bamboo, wood, iron, bronze, jade, and silver to pottery and porcelain, reflect the evolution and development of materials.

Looking back at history, lamps and fire are inseparable. Where there was fire, there were lamps. In ancient times, human ancestors lit a bonfire with branches to serve as a lamp. This was the earliest lamp in human history. At that time, torches were considered the most advanced.

By the Neolithic Age, oil lamps using grease as fuel began to appear. Initially, animal skulls, clam shells, or stone troughs were used as lamp bases. Later, ceramic, copper, and iron lamps made from ceramic and metal emerged, each with a wick for efficient combustion and less black smoke. To prevent oil lamps from smoking, people invented lamps with covers. Later, people invented candles made from solidified grease, which were more convenient to use and carry. In the 18th century, oil lamps were improved by raising the oil reservoir and connecting the lamp head to it with an oil pipe. Due to sufficient oil supply, the flame was strong and bright. In 1745, kerosene lamps were invented, and soon after, gas lamps appeared. In the early 19th century, electricity was discovered. Since then, lamps and electricity have become inextricably linked.
